OELMEK to strengthen its legal department

The President of OELMEK, Konstantinos Konstantinou, announced that the union has decided to urgently recruit specialized legal advisors. This decision by the union's Secretariat aims to address the increasingly complex institutional and legal environment within the public education sector in Cyprus. According to Konstantinou, the union needs enhanced legal expertise to handle matters such as teacher appointment systems, tenure, evaluations, labor relations, and professional rights. The union leadership argues that traditional union experience and standard negotiation processes are no longer sufficient to protect the legal interests of their members. The move is intended to ensure that the organization can provide better support for its members regarding their service rights. The initiative reflects a shift toward more formal and documentation-heavy advocacy for educators in the current professional climate.
