Attorney general orders prosecution of father following toddler's death in Paphos

The Attorney General of Cyprus has ordered the criminal prosecution of a 37-year-old British father for causing death through a reckless, negligent, or dangerous act. The incident occurred on July 12 at a hotel in Chlorakas, Paphos, when the three-year-old boy fell from a fourth-floor window while playing with his father. Despite efforts by paramedics and doctors at Paphos General Hospital, the child was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. The father had been held in custody for eight days, a duration criticized by some legal experts as excessive given the nature of the investigation. Following a review of the evidence and toxicology reports, the authorities decided to proceed with formal charges. The defendant is scheduled to appear before the Paphos District Court to face the charges and address requests for strict bail conditions. Prosecutors stated that the father bears responsibility for the child’s safety, while the defense has characterized the event as a tragic accident.
