Chostia community closes central road to provide safe play area for children
The community of Chostia, part of the Municipality of Thebes, has implemented a measure to close its central road daily from 21:30 to 00:00. This initiative, announced by community president Serafim Dedes, aims to provide a safe space for children to play. The decision follows the persistent lack of a public playground, a project that has been delayed since 2017 due to bureaucratic obstacles, contractual changes, and various objections. An initial proposal to designate the street as one-way was reportedly rejected by the municipal authorities. Consequently, local officials decided to enforce the nightly closure to allow children to use the street for recreational activities like cycling and ball games. Dedes stated that the measure is coordinated with the municipal administration, ensuring that traffic is diverted through alternative routes. This remains a temporary solution until the planned playground construction is finally realized.
