Expert witness testifies in trial of Giorgos Christodoulou

On July 21, Maria Konstantinou, a chemist from the State General Laboratory, testified before the Nicosia Assize Court in the ongoing trial of Giorgos Christodoulou, known as Zavradonas. The case concerns the seizure of 15.016 kilograms of cocaine, which were found in a military bag containing 14 packages. The chemist stated that she received the evidence on January 18, 2019, in sealed condition, and chemical analysis showed an average purity of 75 percent. She noted that the substance likely originated from Latin America based on the markings, although she could not confirm the exact location of manufacture. The defense counsel, Christos Poutziouris, challenged the integrity of the evidence, suggesting that the quantity analyzed might not be the same as the one originally seized. The witness maintained that the exhibits were delivered to her in sealed packages. Further hearings are scheduled for July 30 and 31.
