Larnaca authorities implement measures to curb vandalism

On Tuesday, the Mayor of Larnaca, Andreas Vyras, met with representatives from the Larnaca Tourism Board and senior police officials to address a surge in vandalism incidents across the city. The discussion was triggered by recent damages at the Mediterranean Artists’ Park, which houses sculptures by local artists. Authorities noted that vandalism, including graffiti and the destruction of public street furniture, is a recurring issue that incurs high repair costs. Beyond the immediate damage, concerns were raised regarding the negative impact on the city’s cultural image and its reputation as a safe tourist destination. To counter these acts, the municipal and police authorities decided to increase police patrols in vulnerable areas. Additionally, the plan includes the installation of CCTV surveillance cameras at the Mediterranean Artists’ Park and other locations of cultural significance. The deployment of private security guards was also approved to monitor these sensitive sites. Further installations of sculptures are planned for the park in the near future.
