Louvre Gallery of Apollo reopens following major heist

The Gallery of Apollo at the Louvre Museum in Paris is scheduled to reopen to the public this Wednesday. The reopening follows a high-profile heist on October 19, 2025, during which thieves disguised as construction workers used a truck-mounted lift to infiltrate the space. The robbers stole eight pieces of the French crown jewels, valued at approximately 88 million euros, which remain unrecovered. French Minister of Culture Catherine Pegard will attend the reopening event. According to Louvre President Christophe Leribault, the historic hall will no longer display the crown jewels or other high-value artifacts. Instead, the space will return to its original 17th-century function as a state gallery. The museum administration is currently planning the construction of a new, reinforced vault in a different location to house the surviving collections, though this project requires significant time and funding.
