Ozgeur Ozel reportedly plans to form new political party in Turkey

Turkish media reports suggest that Ozgeur Ozel is moving to establish a new political party, tentatively named 'Yeni Parti'. This decision follows delays in a legal case concerning the 'absolute nullity' of certain proceedings within the Republican People's Party (CHP). The Supreme Court of Appeals is not expected to review the appeal until the conclusion of judicial holidays, likely in September. Ozel had previously indicated that he would form a new entity if the legal process did not yield an immediate favorable outcome. Reports state that an official application to the Turkish Ministry of Interior is expected on Monday, July 27. The founding council will reportedly consist of lawmakers aligned with Ozel who oppose recent developments within the CHP. Ozel is expected to outline his political roadmap during a parliamentary group meeting of the CHP today. Analysts suggest this may be his final meeting as a member of the current CHP leadership before beginning consultations with his political allies.
