Developments in Edek reconstruction and electoral preparations

Following an extraordinary conference held on July 5, 2026, the party Edek established a Committee for Congresses and Member Registry Purification. The committee, initially chaired by Nikos Anastasiou, met on July 9 and July 19 to initiate the verification of member lists for 2015, 2017, 2021, and 2025. The panel decided to collect digital registry data to purge members who publicly supported or campaigned for rival parties during the 2026 legislative elections. A finalized registry will be submitted to a credentialing committee. The committee also set dates for a statutory congress on October 11, 2026, and an ideological-political electoral congress on December 13, 2026. The 'Struggle for the Reconstruction of Edek' initiative is currently pressuring party bodies to expedite these decisions and maintain democratic mandates. While the committee has outlined a clear timeline for provincial consultations and statute revisions ending by early October, internal factions remain vigilant about the implementation of these goals.
