Recent fire incidents in Paphos and Nicosia districts

On July 21, 2026, two separate wildfire incidents occurred in Cyprus. A small fire broke out near the Asprokremmos Dam in the Anarita community of Paphos at 15:53, affecting three decares of uncultivated land and wild vegetation. This fire was fully controlled by 16:40 through the joint efforts of seven Forestry Department personnel and five firefighters. Additionally, a larger wildfire is currently burning northwest of the Ergates Industrial Area in Nicosia. The Nicosia fire is affecting dry grass, wild vegetation, and reeds in a riverbed. Fire Service spokesperson Andreas Kettis reported that four fire engines, along with reinforcements from the Forestry Department, the Game and Fauna Service, and volunteers, are working on site. The District Administration has provided two bulldozers and a water tanker to assist. Two firefighting aircraft are currently operating at the Nicosia site, with two additional aircraft activated to strengthen suppression efforts.
