Cyprus is currently experiencing a period of extreme fire danger, with the Forestry Department maintaining a 'Red Alert' status due to record-breaking heat, low humidity, and strong winds. Since the start of 2026, over 1,350 countryside fires have been recorded. Recent incidents include a fire in the Ergates industrial area on July 21, which destroyed seven hectares, and a blaze in Lympia on July 22 that impacted seven decares of vegetation. On July 23, emergency services successfully contained a wildfire in the Skarinou area, protecting nearby agricultural land.

Authorities have reported several incidents in the occupied northern territories, including fires in Dikomo, Koutsovendis, and Mia Milia. The latter incidents resulted in significant property damage, livestock loss, and two hospitalizations due to smoke inhalation. In response to the ongoing risk, the government has imposed a work stoppage for outdoor labor during peak heat hours and warned that causing a fire carries severe legal penalties. National Civil Protection Coordinator Nikos Longinos stated that fire-weather conditions are currently at their most difficult level, with authorities on high alert to respond to any new outbreaks.
