Wildfires reported in Nicosia and Paphos districts
On July 21, 2026, two separate wildfires broke out in Cyprus. A significant fire occurred northwest of the Ergates industrial area in Nicosia, burning approximately seven hectares of land, including dry grass, wild vegetation, trees, and reeds in a riverbed. This fire damaged abandoned vehicles, machinery, and parts of a solar park, while responders successfully protected nearby buildings and a concrete facility. The Nicosia operation involved the Fire Service, Forestry Department, Game and Fauna Service, and volunteer groups, supported by four firefighting aircraft and various heavy machinery. A separate, smaller wildfire in the Anarita community of Paphos district, near the Asprokremmos dam, burned three decares of agricultural land and wild vegetation. The Paphos fire was reported at 15:53 and brought under control by 16:40 through the efforts of the Forestry Department and Fire Service. Authorities are currently investigating the causes of both incidents.
