Murder trial begins for former minister Ann Widdecombe
Joshua Kerry, a 28-year-old British national, has appeared in London’s Westminster Magistrates’ Court charged with the murder of former government minister Ann Widdecombe. Prosecutors state that 78-year-old Widdecombe was attacked at her home in rural southwest England on July 8. Evidence presented in court includes surveillance footage from inside the home showing Kerry entering the property while the victim was eating lunch. During the attack, the suspect reportedly struck Widdecombe 21 times on the head with a hammer. The victim was discovered on July 9 by her gardener after she failed to attend a scheduled television interview. Authorities believe the victim was specifically targeted, though the motive remains under investigation. Kerry is scheduled to appear at the Old Bailey to address the charges.
