Football legend Kevin Keegan remembered for visits to Cyprus in the 1980s

Kevin Keegan, a two-time Ballon d'Or winner and former England captain, has died at the age of 75. Beyond his major club career, Keegan is remembered in Cyprus for exhibition matches during the 1980s. In 1984, he played for Anorthosis Famagusta in a friendly against Omonoia Nicosia at the invitation of manager Peter Cormack. He returned to the island in May 1987 for the Cyprus Super Cup, a tournament featuring Apoel, Omonoia, Arsenal, and Luton Town. During this trip, he played for Apoel and coached the football team at The English School in Nicosia. These visits remain significant in local sports history, with Cypriot clubs and local fans sharing tributes following the announcement of his death.
