Travel agency Expedia released its 'Island Hot List 2026,' identifying global islands experiencing the highest growth in popularity. According to the report, online searches for island vacations rose by an average of 55% compared to the previous year, with social media mentions increasing by 20%. Saint Lucia in the Caribbean currently holds the number one spot on the list. Three European destinations are included in the top five: Porto Santo in Portugal, Syros in Greece, and the Lofoten Islands in Norway. Porto Santo, located near Madeira, saw an 85% increase in online search volume. Syros, part of the Cyclades, recorded a 60% increase in search interest. These destinations are gaining traction as travelers seek alternatives to high-traffic tourist areas, citing natural beauty and competitive pricing.
