EU and UN officials discuss efforts for Cyprus settlement
EU High Representative Kaja Kallas held a telephone conversation with UN Personal Envoy Maria Angela Holguin on Tuesday. The discussion focused on maintaining momentum for a comprehensive settlement of the Cyprus issue under UN leadership. Kallas reaffirmed the EU's commitment to supporting these UN-led efforts. The call took place ahead of Holguin's visit to Brussels on Wednesday, where she is scheduled to meet with European Commission Cyprus envoy Raffaele Fitto. Following the Brussels meeting, Holguin will travel to Ankara on Friday for talks with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan. These diplomatic activities precede the upcoming visit of UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres to Cyprus. Guterres is expected to hold separate meetings with President Nikos Christodoulides and Turkish Cypriot leader Tufan Erhurman, as well as chair a joint meeting. Kallas and Holguin agreed to continue their coordination during the UN General Assembly in September.
