Hungarian opposition leader Viktor Orban issues resistance declaration following office raid

Former Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has issued a 'Declaration of Resistance' following a prosecutor's raid on the server offices of his party, Fidesz. Prosecutors stated that the operation is linked to an investigation into alleged embezzlement and criminal offenses at the National Cultural Fund during Orban's 16-year tenure. Orban, who lost power in April's general elections, claims the current government led by Prime Minister Peter Magyar has dismantled democracy. Specifically, Orban criticized a constitutional amendment pushed by the governing Tisza party that terminates the terms of the president and the head of the Constitutional Court. The Fidesz party characterized the raid as an unprecedented act of political suppression since 1990. Conversely, the Tisza party denies engaging in authoritarianism and asserts its commitment to rooting out corruption prevalent under the previous administration. Prime Minister Magyar has pledged to restore democratic institutions and align Hungary with European Union standards.
