On the night of Tuesday, July 21, 2026, 73-year-old prominent Greek criminal lawyer Stavros Georgiou was found dead in his office on 3rd of September Street in central Athens. His 16-year-old twin daughters, concerned after being unable to reach him, went to the office and discovered his body with the assistance of the building's concierge. The victim was found naked in a pool of blood, with his clothes scattered nearby.

Forensic examinations conducted by pathologists Nikos Kalogrias and Simeon Mesogitis confirmed that Georgiou suffered a brutal beating, sustaining multiple head and chest injuries from a blunt object. There were no signs of forced entry, suggesting the victim may have known his assailant. Authorities launched an investigation led by the Organized Crime Division, analyzing local security footage and DNA evidence.

Police subsequently arrested a 28-year-old Egyptian national in connection with the homicide. Reports indicate the two men had been in the same company on Monday night, and a dispute allegedly broke out after the lawyer drove the suspect to his office. The suspect, who has a prior record for illegal entry into Greece, was identified partly due to a fractured hand. The victim's mobile phone was found to be missing from the scene.
