On the night of July 21, 2026, 73-year-old criminal lawyer Stavros Georgiou was found dead in his office in central Athens after his twin daughters were unable to reach him and alerted authorities. Forensic examinations confirmed that Georgiou died from severe head and thoracic injuries, caused by blunt force trauma from fists and kicks during a violent struggle. The perpetrator did not use any weapons, but the victim was found in a pool of blood with signs of physical assault.

Authorities arrested a 28-year-old Egyptian national in connection with the homicide. The suspect, who was also wanted for the sexual abuse of a minor, confessed to the crime, stating that he and the victim had spent the evening together before a dispute occurred at the lawyer's office. CCTV footage and fingerprints found at the scene were critical in identifying and apprehending him.
