Cyprus football clubs owe 9.5 million euros in social insurance contributions

Data from the Cyprus Social Insurance Fund indicates that 12 football clubs and companies currently participating or previously involved in the First Division owe a total of 9.5 million euros as of July 15. This figure reflects a reduction of approximately 2.5 million euros from the 12 million euros reported 11 months ago, following recent settlement arrangements. Of the 19 total football entities monitored, only seven are fully compliant with their financial obligations. Five major debtors account for 9.32 million euros of the total outstanding debt. Due to data protection legislation, the Social Insurance Services have not disclosed the specific names of the clubs involved. Criminal proceedings have been initiated against several entities, with current and former administrative officials appearing in district courts. Recovery warrants are issued following the completion of these judicial proceedings for unpaid contributions.
