U.S. officials testify on costs of military operations in Iran

U.S. Secretary of War Pete Hegseth and General Dan Kane testified before the Senate Appropriations Committee regarding the ongoing military conflict with Iran. Hegseth stated that operations have cost approximately $37.5 billion to date, a figure that includes projected expenses through September 30. This amount represents an $8 billion increase over previous public estimates. Additionally, the Trump administration requested $67 billion in supplemental funding for the conflict and $1.5 trillion for the Department of War's total budget for the next fiscal year. Regarding casualties, the official death toll for U.S. forces has risen to 17, with an 18th potential fatality under investigation following an attack on a base in Jordan. Approximately 430 military personnel have been reported wounded in the conflict, which began on February 28 with U.S.-Israeli strikes. Sources previously indicated that early costs for the first six days were estimated at $11.3 billion.
