Identical quadruplets born naturally in Australia

On July 14, 34-year-old Jenitar Naamoana gave birth to identical quadruplets at the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital in Australia. The four girls, Emily, Harriet, Catherine, and Alexa, were conceived naturally without the assistance of fertility treatments. Born at 28 weeks and four days of gestation via cesarean section, the infants shared a single placenta, a condition medical experts described as unprecedented and high-risk. The mother had been hospitalized since her 25th week of pregnancy for continuous monitoring by a specialized team led by Dr. Alexa Bendall. The infants are named after the obstetrician who oversaw the pregnancy. The parents, who already have four other children, were reportedly surprised by the natural quadruplet pregnancy. Experts estimate the probability of such a naturally occurring monozygotic quadruplet birth at one in 15 million. No serious complications were reported following the delivery.
