Eoa Famagusta president requests updates on university project implementation

Giannis Karousos, President of the Famagusta District Self-Government Organization (EOA), has publicly demanded an update from the Cypriot government regarding the establishment of university facilities in the Famagusta region. In January 2025, government representatives informed the Parliamentary Committee that project planning was at an advanced stage and identified the participating academic institution. In February 2025, the President of the Republic officially announced the creation of university structures in both municipalities of the free Famagusta district. Karousos reports that approximately eighteen months have passed since these assurances without significant progress, official updates, or established timelines. He characterizes these developments as empty promises and emphasizes the need for transparency and accountability. According to Karousos, the project is a strategic investment intended to boost the local economy, create jobs, and attract academic personnel. The EOA President is now calling for a clear explanation of whether the original plans remain valid and what the current implementation schedule entails.
