Legendary Greek singer Mary Linda passes away at 91

Mary Linda, a renowned figure in Greek popular music, died at age 91 on July 22 at the Athens Nursing Home, where she had resided since 2018. The singer passed away at 5 a.m. in the presence of her daughter, Evangelia, and the institution's staff. Her funeral is scheduled for Friday, July 24, at the Athens Nursing Home chapel, with burial to follow at the First Cemetery of Athens. Linda was best known for her iconic musical collaboration and ten-year marriage to composer Manolis Chiotis during the 1960s, a period when they performed globally, including at the White House for President Lyndon B. Johnson in 1964. Throughout her career, she won the first prize at the 1961 Thessaloniki Song Festival and collaborated with major Greek composers such as Mikis Theodorakis and Manos Hatzidakis.
