Update on the aftermath of the Venezuela earthquake

On Monday, National Assembly President Jorge Rodriguez announced that the death toll from the June 24 earthquakes in Venezuela has risen to 5,278. The magnitude 7.2 and 7.5 tremors caused widespread destruction, resulting in 190 collapsed buildings and 856 damaged structures. While 16,740 people remain injured, authorities have not provided an exact figure for those missing. Over 23,000 individuals are currently living in more than 100 temporary shelters. Acting President Delcy Rodriguez stated that 4,000 new homes will be provided to the displaced by December, with additional housing planned for 2027. The government aims to deliver a total of 25,000 properties to address the housing crisis. Meanwhile, a sporting event held in the northern regions served as a public gathering for the affected population. Recovery operations continue in areas such as La Guaira.
