Status and future development of the Cyprus State Fair site

The Cyprus State Fair, historically a central commercial and cultural hub in Nicosia, has experienced significant decline as exhibitions relocated to modern venues. For decades, the site hosted thousands of visitors, businesses, and amusement attractions, functioning as a key social landmark. Following its operational peak, the majority of the halls have been abandoned, with some structures falling into disrepair. During the COVID-19 pandemic, portions of the site were repurposed to serve as a vaccination center. While some facilities remain in occasional use, the area is largely characterized by inactivity. Plans are currently underway to redevelop the grounds into a Metropolitan Park for Western Nicosia, marking a major urban regeneration project. Authorities intend to preserve selected historic buildings, which are recognized for their post-war architectural significance, as part of the new development plan.
