Cyprus launches public consultation for national artificial intelligence strategy
The Deputy Ministry of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy of Cyprus has initiated a public consultation process regarding the nation's new Artificial Intelligence (AI) Strategy. Interested stakeholders are invited to submit their feedback, proposals, and observations through the "e-Consultation" platform by August 31, 2026.
The strategy was developed by the National AI Taskforce, an expert committee established by the Council of Ministers on January 22, 2025 (Decision No. 97.538). Chaired by the Chief Scientist for Research, Innovation and Technology, Dimitris Skouridis, the committee consists of eleven members representing the public and private sectors, as well as the academic and research communities. The policy framework aims to position Cyprus as a reliable AI hub in the Eastern Mediterranean by 2032, serving as a bridge between the European Union and neighboring regions.
Simultaneously, the Commissioner for Communications, Marios Pieris, and the Chief Scientist have begun coordinating efforts to ensure the safe and responsible implementation of the EU AI Act. This collaborative effort includes developing an implementation playbook and organizing technical roundtables with ISO/IEC experts to strengthen the country's AI governance and digital resilience.
