Eurostat reports fuel price trends in the EU for June 2026

In June 2026, fuel and lubricant prices for personal transport in the European Union increased by 13.7% year-on-year, showing a slowdown compared to the 20.7% rise recorded in May. Cyprus experienced an 18.6% annual increase, placing it among the member states with the highest price growth. Bulgaria recorded the sharpest annual rise at 26.0%, while Hungary saw the lowest at 2.3%. Despite these annual figures, fuel prices generally declined on a monthly basis across the EU in June, with diesel prices falling by 6.4% and gasoline by 4.2% compared to May. However, Cyprus and Italy were exceptions, experiencing slight monthly gasoline price increases of 0.7% and 0.5% respectively. Across the bloc, most member states observed a monthly reduction in prices, with Sweden, Belgium, and Poland recording the most significant drops. The inflationary trend is largely attributed to ongoing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East. These statistics highlight the divergence between annual inflationary pressures and short-term monthly market relief.
