Sokratis Famellos announces resignation from Syriza parliamentary group

Sokratis Famellos, who served as the president of the Syriza-PS party until 15 days ago, has officially announced his resignation from the party's parliamentary group. He submitted a formal letter to the President of the Greek Parliament to confirm his status as an independent member. Famellos stated that recent events within the party do not align with his political values, citing opposition to internal isolationism and a failure to effectively address the need for a progressive alternative to the current government. He expressed regret over the stalemate but affirmed his commitment to left-wing ideals and his intention to continue working for social justice outside the party framework. Following this departure, the number of Syriza MPs has been reduced to 11, placing the party on par with the Greek Solution in parliamentary standing. Further resignations could potentially drop Syriza to fifth place in the parliament rankings. Currently, the total number of independent deputies in the Greek Parliament has reached 53.
