According to a report published by the Central Bank of Cyprus (CBC) on Wednesday, cards accounted for 75% of all non-cash transactions in Cyprus during the second half of 2025, the highest share in the eurozone. Credit transfers followed as the second most frequent method at 16%. In total, non-cash payment volume in Cyprus rose by 8% year-on-year to 174 million transactions, with the total value increasing by 9% to €148 billion. By comparison, cards accounted for 57% of transactions across the broader eurozone, with credit transfers holding a 21% share. The report noted a significant divergence in transaction values, with online card payments averaging €129 compared to €38 for physical point-of-sale transactions. The CBC attributed this digital shift to the convenience of contactless payments and the expansion of e-commerce. Data was compiled from all Cyprus-resident payment service providers, including credit and electronic money institutions. The report highlights that while in-person transactions remain higher in volume, online payments represent a larger share of the total value.
