The Larnaca Municipality signed a construction contract on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, to transform the city's historic old hospital complex into a modern municipal headquarters. The project, with a budget of approximately 8.8 million euros excluding VAT, aims to integrate the preservation of cultural heritage with the creation of functional, accessible administrative offices.

Larnaca Mayor Andreas Vyras described the project as a historic achievement for the city, marking the shift from vision to implementation for a facility that served as a public institution for over a century. The original structures of the hospital date back to 1900, with significant expansions funded by benefactor Evanthia Pieridou between 1932 and 1934. The redevelopment is intended to revitalize the historic center of the city while upgrading administrative infrastructure.

Physical construction work on the site is scheduled to commence in September 2026. The project is expected to enhance the city's administrative efficiency and preserve a key landmark of Larnaca's architectural and social history.
