Cyprus experienced a significant heatwave during the third week of July 2026, with inland temperatures peaking at 44°C. The Department of Meteorology issued an orange weather alert for several days, as daytime temperatures remained high and overnight lows struggled to drop below 28°C in the capital, marking some of the warmest conditions recorded this summer.

In response to the extreme weather, the Ministry of Labour implemented a suspension of heavy and moderate outdoor work for inland areas located below 300 meters in altitude and more than 10 kilometers from the coast. This mandate specifically prohibited deliveries using two-wheeled vehicles and e-scooters during the hottest hours, between 12:00 pm and 4:00 pm. Authorities advised employers to rotate staff and provide frequent breaks, while the Ministry of Health issued comprehensive safety guidance, recommending that the public avoid strenuous exercise and prolonged sun exposure between 11:00 am and 5:00 pm.

Following the peak of the heatwave, conditions began to moderate by the weekend, with temperatures forecast to drop to approximately 35°C inland by Saturday. Isolated showers were expected in mountain regions, and the Meteorological Service anticipated a gradual return to cooler, more seasonal weather patterns for the following week.
