The Cyprus Meteorological Service has issued consecutive weather warnings as the island faces a significant heatwave. A yellow alert for high nighttime temperatures is in effect from 21:00 on Wednesday, July 22, until 06:00 on Thursday, July 23, with lows expected to stay between 22°C and 28°C. An orange alert follows, covering midday to 17:00 on Thursday, during which temperatures in inland areas are forecast to hit 44°C, with coastal regions reaching between 33°C and 37°C.

In response to the extreme conditions, the Civil Defense Service has released a list of 13 safety recommendations. Residents and visitors are urged to avoid direct sun exposure between 11:00 and 17:00, refrain from heavy physical labor, stay hydrated, and wear light clothing. Authorities specifically warned against leaving children, the elderly, or pets in parked vehicles and advised the public to check on vulnerable neighbors.

Temperatures are expected to begin falling on Friday, July 24. Forecasters anticipate a gradual cooling trend that should return the island to normal seasonal levels, around 38°C in Nicosia, by Sunday, July 26.
