Road safety concerns arise over subsidence on Apostolou Pavlou Avenue

A significant road subsidence on Apostolou Pavlou Avenue, situated between the villages of Emba and Tala in the Paphos district, has raised serious safety concerns among local motorists. The damage has resulted in a two-meter-long ditch, prompting the Paphos traffic police to intervene and pressure the Emba village council for urgent repairs. Due to the lack of initial action, the traffic police escalated the matter to the Chief of Police, Themistos Arnaoutis.

Emba Mukhtar Marios Metaxas stated that the issue involves a structural displacement of the road rather than a simple subsidence. He proposed long-term solutions, including widening the road toward Tala and installing safety railings, as a stormwater drainage ditch runs alongside the affected segment. The village council is currently considering two primary options for resolution: either utilizing local municipal repair crews or issuing a public tender for private contractors to perform the necessary construction work. Until permanent repairs are conducted, authorities have advised motorists to exercise extreme caution when navigating this stretch of road, which serves as a key route toward Kissonerga.
