On July 23, 2026, the Cypriot technology association TechIsland announced the provision of small fire engines to 45 local communities at no cost. Interior Minister Constantinos Ioannou confirmed that TechIsland has committed €450,000 to cover the remaining costs not funded by the government. This distribution is part of the broader TechIsland Wildfire Initiative, a programme launched following the catastrophic wildfires of July 2025 in mountainous Limassol.

The 2025 disaster, which resulted in the loss of two lives and the destruction of 191 homes across 15 villages, burned over 100 square kilometres of forest. In response, more than 60 companies and individuals raised €2 million to aid affected residents. The initiative has since evolved from emergency relief into a long-term strategy encompassing fire prevention, early detection, and recovery, involving collaboration between the private sector, state authorities, and scientific experts.
