Metropolitan Anthony of Volokolamsk conducts pastoral visit to Cyprus
Metropolitan Anthony of Volokolamsk, chairman of the Department for External Church Relations of the Moscow Patriarchate, completed a multi-day working visit to Cyprus from July 20 to July 22, 2026. The visit, conducted with the blessing of Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia, began with his arrival at Larnaca International Airport, where he was welcomed by Protopresbyter Pavel Povalyaev. On the evening of July 20, Metropolitan Anthony led an all-night vigil at the Church of St. Nicholas in Limassol, followed by a concelebrated Divine Liturgy on July 21 with Metropolitan Timotheos of Bostra, the Exarch of the Holy Sepulchre in Cyprus.
Throughout the remainder of his trip, Metropolitan Anthony engaged in a series of meetings with prominent Cypriot hierarchs. On July 22, he visited the Metropolitan of Morphou Neophytos in Eurychou, met with the Abbot of Kykkos Monastery and Metropolitan Nikiforos of Kykkos and Tillyria in Nicosia, and held discussions with Metropolitan Athanasios of Limassol, which concluded with a visit to the Cathedral of Panagia. According to official statements from the Moscow Patriarchate, these high-level meetings served to address various aspects of inter-Orthodox relations. No further public actions or upcoming legal proceedings were mentioned in the reports regarding this pastoral mission.
