Trade unions representing workers at the Electricity Authority of Cyprus (EAC) have announced the suspension of planned industrial actions until September 2026. The decision was made following a meeting on July 22, 2026, with the Minister of Energy and the Deputy Minister to the President, citing the ongoing difficult conditions within the national electrical system.

While the government acknowledged the validity of the unions' concerns regarding power adequacy, security of supply, and high consumer costs, the unions expressed dissatisfaction with the lack of substantive proposals from the state. The unions (EPOPAH, SYDIKEK, SEPAHK, and SYVAHK) specifically linked the current frequent power outages to state inaction and failures by independent institutions to maintain necessary infrastructure.

Despite the suspension of industrial action, the unions maintain that their previous warnings regarding the grid's instability have been confirmed by recent power failures. They emphasize that employees continue to work toward repairing malfunctions in production units and distribution networks. The unions expect the government to eventually adopt measures to address energy insecurity and rising costs, though no specific future actions were announced by the state to resolve these long-term issues.
