Paphos named world's best destination for sunrises and sunsets
On July 22, 2026, the international travel magazine Travel + Leisure published a report naming the Paphos region in Cyprus as the top global destination for viewing and photographing sunrises and sunsets. The distinction highlights Paphos for its unique combination of coastal scenery, natural landscape diversity, and historical monuments.
The global ranking was compiled by the European photography company CEWE in collaboration with award-winning travel photographer Bella Falk. Paphos secured the first-place position, surpassing other world-renowned locations such as Santa Monica in California, the Maasai Mara in Kenya, Tamarindo in Costa Rica, and the Sahara Desert dunes in Morocco. The methodology for selecting the destination relied on visual impact, accessibility, and the quality of photographic composition opportunities available during sunrise and sunset hours.
This recognition serves as a significant boost for the region's tourism profile. The criteria used for the evaluation emphasize the specific aesthetic qualities of Paphos' western coastline, which offers a unique backdrop for travelers and photography enthusiasts alike.
