Tornado during typhoon Bavi causes severe destruction in China
On July 23, 2026, a powerful tornado struck the Sanqiao Subdistrict in China, causing significant destruction during the passage of Typhoon Bavi. The severe weather incident, which was captured on dashcam footage, shows the tornado lifting a vehicle into the air and tossing it several meters. The storm system, characterized by intense winds and heavy rainfall, caused widespread damage across the Zhejiang province, including the uprooting of thousands of trees.
In response to the emergency, Chinese authorities implemented massive preventive evacuations, resulting in the relocation of more than 2.2 million residents. The extreme conditions also severely disrupted regional infrastructure, leading to the cancellation of hundreds of flights. Currently, local officials are assessing the total impact of the storm. Efforts to clear debris and restore order continue as the area recovers from the event.
