On July 23, 2026, the Municipality of Paphos and the Paphos Traffic Police held a joint meeting at the Municipal Hall to address the regulation of Personal Mobility Devices (PMDs), such as electric scooters. Presided over by Acting Mayor Angelos Onisiforou, the meeting included Paphos Traffic Police representative Andronikos Tsappis and Road Safety Officer Christos Liasidis. The authorities declared a zero-tolerance policy toward illegal operations.

The primary focus of the intensified enforcement will be rental companies operating without the required municipal permits. The municipality has warned that it is prepared to utilize all legal means at its disposal, including obtaining court orders to suspend the operations of non-compliant businesses. While the police are responsible for traffic law enforcement and issuing citations for violations, the municipality manages the licensing of rental agencies and the regulation of public spaces.

This decision marks a significant hardening of the city's stance on road safety and public order. Officials emphasized that this collaborative effort between local government and law enforcement aims to protect citizens and tourists alike. Regular inspections are expected to continue indefinitely to ensure that all operators strictly adhere to existing legislation without exception.
