President Christodoulides announces 1 billion euro development projects
On July 23, 2026, President Nikos Christodoulides attended the inauguration of the renovation project for the Timios Stavros Square and the core of Omodos village. During the event, which was attended by the full Cabinet, the President announced that the government is preparing to allocate over 1 billion euros for significant development projects across Cyprus within the framework of the next Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF).
The initiative aims to utilize European funding to support rural areas, modernize public infrastructure, and stimulate economic growth. The President emphasized that the selection of these projects will involve close cooperation with local authorities, municipalities, and regional stakeholders to ensure targeted revitalization of the countryside.
This announcement coincided with the first anniversary of the destructive wildfires that struck the mountainous Limassol region on July 23, 2025. The ceremony began with a memorial for the two victims of the fires, highlighting the government's commitment to supporting the affected communities through concrete actions rather than mere rhetoric. The administration plans to finalize decisions regarding these projects in the coming period to maximize the strategic use of EU financial resources.
