Alpha International Holdings seeks approval for Altius Insurance acquisition
The Commission for the Protection of Competition (EPA) in Cyprus is currently reviewing a concentration notification regarding the acquisition of Altius Insurance Ltd by Alpha International Holdings Single Member S.A. The regulatory authority is assessing the transaction to ensure compliance with established market competition standards, which will determine if the deal can proceed as planned.
Alpha International Holdings, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Alpha Bank S.A., functions as a holding company for the group's international assets and subsidiaries outside of Greece. The target entity, Altius Insurance Ltd, is a Nicosia-based company operating across all insurance sectors. This development follows the announcement in early July 2026 that Alpha Bank had finalized the acquisition of Altius Insurance, which had served as the bank's exclusive bancassurance partner in Cyprus for 11 years. The ongoing regulatory review is a procedural step required to formalize the transfer of control to the Alpha Bank holding entity.
As the investigation continues, the parties involved are awaiting the official verdict from the EPA. The outcome will confirm whether the acquisition of exclusive control by Alpha International Holdings adheres to local competition laws and regulations.
