On July 24, 2026, the Cypriot Minister of Transport, Communications and Works, Alexis Vafeades, met with the mayors of the greater Limassol area at the Agios Athanasios Cultural Centre. The primary objective of the summit was to review a strategic roadmap designed to address chronic traffic congestion through a tiered approach of immediate, short-term, and long-term infrastructure interventions.

The proposed investment plan has a total budget of 493 million euros. Key projects include the 80 million euro Limassol–Saittas motorway, the 60 million euro Ypsonas–Polemidia northern circular road, and the 24 million euro second parallel road between Germasogeia and Agios Athanasios. The strategy also incorporates smart traffic management, such as the Urban Traffic Control (UTC) system, which will optimize traffic light synchronization and public transit flow. Additionally, the plan accounts for specific local improvements, including a new roundabout at the Agios Athanasios-Anikodomiseos junction and a new motorway exit at Pyrgos.

Minister Vafeades emphasized that the traffic crisis cannot be resolved through fragmented measures, underscoring the government's shift toward a unified, comprehensive implementation strategy. Following the constructive discussions with local officials, the authorities intend to proceed with the maturation and execution of these prioritized projects to alleviate daily commuting delays in the region.
