On July 24, 2026, Transport Minister Alexis Vafeades met with mayors of the greater Limassol area at the Agios Athanasios Cultural Centre to address the city’s chronic traffic congestion. The government presented a structured plan focused on prioritizing critical infrastructure projects and road interventions.

The proposed budget for these road and urban planning projects totals 493 million euros. The strategy categorizes interventions into immediate, short-term, and medium-term actions, including the construction and upgrading of roundabouts, minor junction improvements, and the implementation of smart traffic management systems such as the UTC. Specific major projects include the Limassol–Saittas motorway with an 80 million euro budget, the second parallel road connecting Germasogeia and Agios Athanasios valued at 24 million euros, and a new section of the Northern Bypass between Ypsonas and other local areas.
