Olympiacos concludes pre-season preparations ahead of Champions League qualifiers
Olympiacos recently concluded its summer training camp in the Netherlands with a series of friendly matches, ending with a 3-2 defeat against AZ Alkmaar. Although the Greek team held a 2-0 lead until the 72nd minute, a sudden defensive collapse in the final quarter allowed the Dutch side to stage a complete turnaround. This match followed a series of pre-season fixtures, including a 3-0 loss to Antwerp. Manager Jose Luis Mendilibar now faces significant challenges as he prepares the squad for the upcoming UEFA Champions League third qualifying round match against Nijmegen, scheduled for August 4 at the Georgios Karaiskakis Stadium.
Adding to the manager's concerns, the final match against AZ Alkmaar resulted in injury setbacks for Santiago Hezze and Manolis Saliakas, both of whom were forced off the pitch. Meanwhile, in a separate development within the club's broader activities, the team competing under coach Giorgos Kostis achieved a 2-1 friendly victory against AEL, with goals from Kynigopoulos and Papageorgiou. The technical staff continues to assess player fitness and tactical cohesion as the official season approaches.
