Eleni Foka initiates legal action over fictionalized biography

Eleni Foka, a former teacher of the enclaved people in Agia Triada, Cyprus, has announced legal action against author Evridiki Perikleous-Papadopoulou. Foka objects to the book titled "Kai polla epikranthi i Eleni tis Karpasias," which presents her life story as a work of fiction rather than a factual account of the enclaved population's history. The announcement was made during a press conference held on July 23, 2026, attended by Archbishop Georgios of Cyprus and her attorney, Laris Vrachimis.

Foka stated that while she originally collaborated with the author to document her testimonies, she never consented to the events being presented as fiction. Following failed efforts to resolve the matter since 2024, formal legal proceedings were initiated against the author and the publisher in March 2026. Foka maintains that the portrayal is an insult to her legacy and the historical reality of the enclaved people, and she seeks to protect the accuracy of her personal and national struggle.
