The government of the Republic of Cyprus has officially approved a new subsidy program aimed at facilitating the installation and replacement of domestic solar water heaters. With a total budget of 1 million euros, the initiative is designed to assist households in reducing electricity consumption and accelerating the country's transition toward renewable energy sources, as noted by Energy Minister Michalis Damianos.

The financial aid provided varies based on the applicant's category: 500 euros for most households, and 900 euros for residents in remote or mountainous areas, as well as for socially vulnerable households. To qualify, applicants must install new systems from an approved government list using only registered professionals. The property must serve as a residential unit, and all procedures, including the mandatory prior approval from the Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation Fund, will be managed electronically.

Applications for the program are open until December 20, 2026, or until the limit of 2,000 requests is reached, whichever occurs first. Potential beneficiaries are advised to secure official confirmation of the subsidy before purchasing or installing equipment, as funds are non-repayable.
