On Friday, July 24, 2026, the leader of the ELAM party, Christos Christou, held a briefing following a session of the National Council in Cyprus. During the meeting, the President of the Republic briefed party leaders on the latest developments regarding the national Cyprus issue.

Christou reiterated his party's firm opposition to a Bizonal, Bicommunal Federation (BBF), arguing that such a solution fails to guarantee the survival of Cypriot Hellenism. However, he welcomed the European Union's appointment of Raffaele Fitto as the Special Representative for the Cyprus problem, expressing support for an active EU role. Furthermore, Christou stated that the UN Secretary-General has a duty to condemn Turkey’s recent actions during his upcoming visit to the island next week, specifically citing violations of the Green Line and the issuance of a NAVTEX for maritime research related to a gas pipeline project towards the occupied territories.
