Cyprus consumer price observatory report for June 2026
The Cyprus Consumer Protection Service has released its June 2026 Price Observatory, detailing rising costs across 400 retail outlets. Annual inflation has climbed to 3.1%, up from 2.5% in May and 2.8% in April, largely attributed to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. The Statistical Service reports significant annual increases in petroleum products by 21.2% and agricultural goods by 9.0%.
Data from the "e-kalathi" digital platform indicates that as of July 15, 2026, the price gap for a basket of 250 common items between the most expensive supermarket, Filippos (€1,069.19), and the cheapest, Athainitis (€957.11), reached €112.08, or 11.7%. This represents an increase in the price disparity compared to the previous month, where the gap was €108.62 (11.2%) for 253 products. The number of identical items tracked across seven major supermarkets has gradually increased from 228 in October 2025 to the current 250.
These findings highlight the ongoing economic pressure on households resulting from regional geopolitical instability. The Consumer Protection Service continues to monitor these trends to provide objective market data for consumers, with the ranking of retail chains noted to shift monthly as price fluctuations persist.
