Pregnant woman loses baby after violent assault in Kallithea
On the night of Tuesday, July 21, 2026, a 37-year-old woman who was five months pregnant was brutally assaulted by her 28-year-old former partner at her home in Kallithea. The assailant reportedly kicked and punched the victim throughout her body and pressed his knee into her abdomen. Following the attack, the woman was rushed to Attikon Hospital, where doctors performed an emergency cesarean section; however, the infant did not survive.
The suspect was apprehended by DIAS police officers on the afternoon of Thursday, July 23, at the intersection of Ermou Street and Asomaton Square. He now faces serious criminal charges, including attempted murder, forced termination of pregnancy, and attempted grievous domestic bodily harm. Authorities are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the attack, with reports suggesting that the victim had previously informed police that her former partner had pressured her to terminate the pregnancy against her will. The victim is currently receiving medical and psychological support as the investigation proceeds.
