The Cypriot Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment has officially reminded the public that the collection, transport, and commercial trading of carobs are strictly prohibited before August 15 of each year. This regulation, based on the amended 2023 Carob (Dockage) Law, remains in force to protect the quality of domestic production and support local farmers.

The measure is designed to prevent damage to trees caused by the premature harvesting of unripe fruit and to curb the theft of produce intended for illegal markets. By enforcing this timeline, the authorities aim to maximize the economic benefit for landowners and professional producers. Anyone found violating these provisions faces criminal prosecution, which, upon conviction, carries a fine of up to 1,000 euros.

While the date is fixed, the Ministry noted that the Minister of Agriculture retains the authority to grant specific exceptions for harvesting, transport, or trading prior to the deadline. Interested parties must submit a formal written application, which will be evaluated based on the specific circumstances and justifications provided by the requester.
